Raymond Paterson Joinery Cockermouth
A Traditional Joinery Workshop Based In Cockermouth

Applying modern quality standards to period style work and renovation, I take conceptual ideas and turn them into delivered high quality solutions. I use traditional joinery skills (which has become somewhat lost over the years), to provide quality products that are built to last.

Working with my customers, I am able to create furniture and fitments that will not only look good, but will stand the test of time.

My portfolio includes bespoke oak windows and doors, fielded staircase panelling and timber summer houses. Sash window renovation is also extremely popular, as customers are often amazed to discover what can be achieved with the correct knowledge and use of modern day draft stripping.

About

Joinery Workshop Cockermouth

Raymond Paterson Joinery in Cockermouth, Cumbria uses traditional joinery skills to create high quality bespoke furniture and fixtures that not only look beautiful but are build to stand the test of time.

Raymond Paterson – A Little About Me:
Having left school at the age of 15 I went straight into my joinery apprenticeship working for my dads joinery contracting firm. Most of the work carried out over these years was renovation work mainly around the Valleys of Lorton and Lowswater in Cumbria.

Together with the training I received at West Cumbria College, where all skills learned were run along the City n Guilds school for tradesmen guild-line. The foundations were set for my future in the joinery industry.

Over 30 years have past since I began my learning as an apprentice; it’s a constant learning that never stops. There are always new projects, new products and new ideas that need to be considered.

Our traditional joiners workshop based in Cockermouth is owned by my dad, who himself has a lifetimes worth of experience under his belt, with over 45 year in the industry. A typical day will generally start at the workshop were we discuss our projects together, which is very useful to get two perspectives when problem solving.

I really enjoy the constant challenges. I like the working methods and traditions that have been passed down over the generations. It’s really satisfying to be able to deliver a service that has its roots going back hundreds of years.

It is my aim for the future to pass on these skills to the next generation, and keep the traditional joinery working methods alive. This is something which is extremely important to me, as I feel that the traditional methods have sadly become somewhat lost over the years.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss a project please feel free to get in touch. You can do this either via our Contact page or by calling 01900 828278.

My dad and myself offer a broad spectrum of all joinery services in Cockermouth. Our customers generally pay us a visit at our Cockermouth Joinery workshop and we interpret their ideas and help design their projects.

A small snap shot of our work can be viewed from the Work page. However, over the past decade we have tended to concentrate more on manufacturing bespoke furnishing and fitments rather than new build site joinery.

We also manufacture for other Joinery contractors, mostly doors and windows that are non-standard sizes and not accessible from stock catalogues. With sliding sash windows being our specialty. Over the last ten years we have been proactive with our research and alert to all the different draft proofing products available for timber windows. We have experimented with various draft stripping methods to find the best and incorporated them with our window assemblies, thus offering traditional joinery methods with modern energy saving additions.

As well as new products, restoration work is another service we are proud to be able to offer. Working mostly in period properties over the years we have gained a wealth of knowledge that enables us to view each project in its own merit which help us make sympathetic choices in the planning process, keeping the property as close to its original form as possible.

Our joinery workshop is fully equipped to deal with almost any project. Varying from lathe work to running obscure timber molds, straight or curved. We have over the years collated many different tooling profiles and are able to run off large or small quantities needed to complete you’re project.

Basically, if it’s made from wood we will be able to help, with either our services or simply advice… for more details please call us on 01900 828278
